GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Aug. 13, 2026 — UFP Packaging announced plans to establish a new manufacturing facility in Cherokee County, South Carolina. The $5.31 million investment in real property, machinery and equipment will expand the company's custom crate manufacturing capabilities and strengthen its ability to serve customers with highly technical packaging needs and sensitive products.
The facility will design and manufacture custom wood-based and mixed-material packaging solutions for customers with demanding product-protection requirements, including producers of medical technology systems, data center hardware, and solar modules.
"Structural Packaging is one of the clearest examples of where our scale, technical knowledge and customer relationships come together," said Scott Worthington, President of UFP Packaging. "Our teams are not simply selling boxes or crates. They are working with customers to understand what they make, how it moves, what risks it faces in transit and how we can design a better solution. This facility and the local South Carolinians who run it will help us support large, national customers with the consistency, engineering support and responsiveness they need as their own operations grow."
Located near key customers in the Southeast and major transportation corridors, the facility will help UFP Packaging reduce shipping distances, improve responsiveness and lower transportation costs.
The investment also adds capacity and production flexibility to UFP Packaging's national manufacturing network, allowing the company to better serve customers based on their location and packaging needs. The project is expected to create 136 jobs over five years.
